We fucked up
When I was eight years old they taught us in school that rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere were causing the world to warm up. However, they said, it would be thirty years before the effects would be felt, and this would be plenty of time for us to reduce our carbon emissions and avoid the worst effects of global warming. When you’re eight years old, thirty years seems like forever, and so I had hope for our future. The grown ups, after all, knew there was a problem and they had all that time to solve it. Plus there were alternatives out there, wind power, solar, hydroelectric…we’d be fine.
I’m now thirty eight, those thirty years have been and gone and…wow…boy did we ever fuck things up.
