A bit fantastic
Renua launched their manifesto yesterday – “Rewarding Work, Rebuilding Trust”. They’ve got the field to themselves at the moment, trying to steal a march on the established parties with an early launch. One bit jumped out so far, the 23% flat tax proposal, which seems to be a ‘tax cuts for all!’ offering.
Ms Creighton said if a flat rate tax was good enough for corporations, it was good enough for people.
The tax take would be €3.5 billion less than at present but she said that within 12 months it would exceed current levels.
Which seems remarkable. 3.5 *billion* in one year? From where? What’ll be cut to afford that for the first year then? Will we close all the schools perhaps?
Hum.
